Here are some tips to make sure your system is ready for the cold weather ahead…
Keep your air filter clean. Making sure your air filter is clean allows for proper airflow and will help your unit run more efficiently.
Keep your thermostat more consistent. When leaving your house, try not to set back your thermostat more than 5 degrees when it is this cold. It is much harder on the system to bring the unit back to temperature.
Be prepared for your unit to run more than normal. With the extreme temperatures, your unit will be running more in order for it to keep up.
Unhook outdoor hoses. Shut off outdoor hose bibs and unhook your outdoor hoses in order to keep it from freezing.
Do your pipes tend to freeze in the bathroom or kitchen sink? If so, open your hot water faucet and let it trickle especially overnight when the temperature is at its lowest.
Check furniture arrangement. Is your furniture blocking your vents? In order for the system to work effectively, make sure there is enough room for air to flow around the vents.
Let the sun in! During the day, open your blinds and let the sun heat your house. Don’t forget to close them at night though to keep that heat inside.
